About Me (In Third Person)
Will Cherry is an immersive narrative designer and director. He has always had an affinity for technology to create stories and change people.
He also abhors writing in third person.
Will entered in Los Angeles in 2011 attending USC’s School of Cinematic Arts. During his undergraduate years, Will produced a plethora of short films, music videos, and tabletop games, while working every role in-between. In the latter half of attendance, he produced and directed several thesis films before transitioning to alternative forms of storytelling.
Enamored with the interactions between people and the stories around them, Will learned to code games and interactive experiences. These quickly branched into projection installations, 360 video, and realtime Virtual Reality. Will’s last undergraduate project with director Yo-Yo Lin, Ricerca, was an installation brought to HTC Vive and one of the first VR experiences on Steam worldwide on VivePort. Ricerca’s success led to speaking engagements at SXSW and NYFF, and Will shortly thereafter joined Vrse.Works in 2016.
While at Vrse.Works (later renamed Here Be Dragons), Will rose to a Creative Technologist role, bridging he gap between traditional filmmakers and realtime developers. He researched and implemented with in-house creatives new VR and AR technologies for award-winning projects Dispatch, The Last Goodbye, Legion: Mixed Reality Sessions, and Chained: A Victorian Nightmare.
In mid-2018 Will left Here be Dragons to freelance as a creative technologist and immersive designer, working on projects such as Groundhog Day VR, StoryFile, and Dallas Cowboys 5G Fan Experience. He’s worked on installations, virtual/augmented reality, video games, alternate-reality games, and bespoke immersive spaces. In his spare time he’s the XR Correspondent for No Proscenium, and self-publishes an Immersive Design Reader: an online guide for designing beyond a screen.
Will’s overly passionate about the use of technology to create artistic vision and improve the human condition through experience - be it digital, physical, or the juxtaposition of the two. He currently lives in Los Angeles, and constantly tinkers with new tech and ideas when not sucked into another reality altogether.
